Fort to Stoney

Hey guys since I got the new boat I have been meaning to try Stoney. I have been there before in the Carolina Skiff but I could get pretty much anywhere with that. The boat I have now has about a 1 and a half foot draft with the motor down. I know the area right by the lighthouse is pretty shallow. I was wondering if you guys had any tips for some safe trips there. Also do you guys know where I can find some points for rocks around that area?

Points for rocks around that area are easy to find.

Once you get to the Stoney entrance,slow down and trim.

JT--can you run the shoreline until you get to Stoney, and then slow down? Or are there other rocks before getting to stoney to watch out for? I'm just wondering how safe it is b/c I would like to attempt getting in there.

I think I may just buy some pvp pipe and make my own push pole. I would rather spend the money on a PVC pipe than a hole in my boat.

It depends on the tide. There are sand bars out from the creeks between the lighthouse and Stoney. The bar out from Horne Creek sticks out anout a half mile. If you have Bluechart, it shows it. I would skirt the sand bars. If it's calm, you can see the bars.

There are also several barnacle encrusted crab traps without floats along that route. Be forwarned they will do as much damage as a bonifide rock.

What TC said is pretty much right. Pretty much,because what Birddog said is right too.
The ghost traps cannot be controlled. The sand bars shift.
These factors not withstanding you can run fairly safe from the lighthouse to Stoney without difficult.
If you want to get aggressive,I can take you on plane from the lighthouse to redfish point and never be more than 300 yards from the hill.

A lot of it will be thru creeks and most of it will be 100 feet from shore.

It's a fun ride actually.

But it can be done on a regular basis.

Reel Slow watched JT do it one day, said it was pretty amazing. I say he's just f-ing crazy. Though I wished I had the seeds to do it.
