St. Marks Fishing 12/19/06

Post by fireant21 »

Put in up the river around 8:00 and ran out to to the mouth of river by the lighthouse. I needed to run the boat since she has been feeling neglected as of late. Waited for a little while for the tide to shift and started fishing the various bars on that end.

Fished live shrimp, top water, jerk bait, and spinner baits around the bars and drop offs without a bite. I worked my way back up the river with the tide, stopping at various bars without much success.

Finally stopped around Port Leon after lunch and fished a bar that drops abruptly off into the channel. The jig was up, no pun intended. Fished a live shrimp on a jig off the edge of the bar and promptly caught numerous reds and one nice fat 18" trout. Placed one keeper red in the box with the trout and left 'em biting to get back by 2:00 to the landing.

Several boats on the river and folks heading out chasing grouper today. Beautiful warm December day with a gentle breeze to keep you cool. Days like today don't come often, thank you Lord.
