My nephew has been catching the H... out of them the past month at night off the lighted docks. Large mouth bass too.
Shad works great catch them with your cast net.But you have to keep a live one one on for stripers.On Talquin when they die I've hook up with some monster cats but stripers perfer them live.
I haven't fished the Talquin area for em, but down here on the lower end, an X-Rap trolled between 2.5 and 3.5 mph "depending on with or against the tide" has been deadly for em my nephew has had some luck with shinners also. I think that any flashy lure or jig moving at a fast pace will catch em
I was looking on another site, and they were catching them on Lake Lanier with
Capt. Macks, 4 arm, 3 oz. u-rigs, with 9 white jigs and chartreuse trailers, 90 feet behind the boat a 3.0 mph. These are the same standard 3 oz. 4 arm rigs, right out of the pack. Make sure you get the ones loaded with 9 jigs on them.
You can catch Stripers with anything from a 1/4 Jighead to trolling umbrella rigs and Mojo's. But if your just hunting fish by tossing lures, I would go with a white jig head or a Storm lure that looks like a menhaden or shad in about a 2 to 5 inch model. In fresh water I have better luck trolling around for Stripers at different depths than anything else, but I have my best luck fishing with top water, right before dark, in areas with turbulent water (Like when water is slowing pouing over a dam).
My nephew went to Talquin Saturday evening and caught 6 stripers to 11 1/2 pounds and 5 large mouth all about 4 pounds.
All of them just at dark with a crankbait.
I'm startingto lean in that direction the more good reports I hear. They bite good at night too, so that might be a good place to be friday or sat night.
