Aucilla WMA ?

Post by Redbelly »

I was wondering if any of you hunt there for turkeys? If so can you tell what area you like to hunt, and is there a good population of birds?
I am thinking of trying it a little this year.
Don't be scared to tell me, I have othere places to hunt also. I have not decided yet to buy my Fla license. I do know 2 guys that hunt there. One hunts the western sloughs and the other hunts the north end, which is where I am looking maybe to hunt. It looks as though taking a boat down the Wacissa may help get into some remote areas, but then maybe roads take you there too.

I wouldn't pay $150 to get shot at on public land during turkey season, Redbelly.

Well...BD...that is some good advice for caution when hun ting public land. I don't deer hunt public land, but have turkey hunted on it. I don't feel as skeered turkey hunting. And i NEVER carry a decoy in my hands!
I use inflatables, if I use one at all.

Maybe you have an inside on some land in Thomas county? :D 8)

He's right. It's any WMA, not just there. But if you don't have any where else to hunt, you might want to give it a try.

Yep I meant pretty much on any public land. A boy I know was shot twice by a hunter last year on public land near Cairo. :o

I talked to that fella that got shot, and he was walking with a decoy in his arms. They were moving in on a gobbler that someone was already working. Of course them Grady county boys are dangerous over at that palce!
I hunt turkey at Tired Creek but only weekdays. And I hunt where most don't.
Another WMA I hunt after 2 weeks most hunters are gone. Last year sometines I never saw another hunter.
On the club I was in it felt more crowded and we had movement restrictions.

If I could just have 2,000 acres with a creek bottom to myself....... 8)

There are lots of turkey off Fairbanks Ferry rd,also known as SR12. From Meridian rd to Ochlocknee river you can park and hunt anywhere on the north side. Pretty land, lots of game. Not many people hunt it.
Good luck,
