***IMPORTANT REMINDER***
Tuesday Night January 16th. Redfish rule changes. FWC building meeting 6-8pm.
If you are truly interested in fishing you should attend. We need numbers of people there to say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH".

"LIFE IS GOOD IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS"

Don't want to speak before we know for sure, but I walked away from that meeting with the impression that the rules for redfish were about to change.
I feel they are going to adopt the 20"-26", tail pinched slot, keep the one fish limit, and also keep the no closed season.
They claim they shoot for a 30% escapment right now, but might aim for 40%. I interpreted escapment to be the reds that never get caught, and escape mortality until after the age of 4.
They also claim that due to increased fishing pressure that we are dipping below the "30%" escapment target.
Apparently hatchery, and re-stocking is not the answer because it is too expensive, and they are loosing their current location where the process takes place now. They want mothernature (with some man-made manipulation of course
) to replenish our redfish stocks.
While we all assured them that redfish stocks are not scarce around here they claim most of the rest of the State is showing a decline in numbers.
My advise to the FWC (which I'm sure was worth about a dozen rotten eggs
) was to come up with better data collection support. They claim all of their info comes from surveys collected from boat ramps, as we as telephone surveys. I've never been surveyed once, nor have I seen a surveyor at a ramp.
JT51 says he's been surveyed one time, but he has also fished these waters since indians paddled dug out canoes. Law of averages were bound to catch up with him
