Lanark Report from Eddie Joe

Post by EddieJoe »

Me an fishing buddy Al left Tally at 5:00, to hopefully beat the holiday weekend bozos and other assorted characters to the ramp. At 6:30, the main Lanark parking lot was full, even though it was still dark. We launched OK, and headed to a bait spot to catch some threads and blue runners for the offshore spots. At our two offshore spots (45'), it was dead, dead, dead. Wind North, seas 2', pretty calm for a change. But, we caught only undersized grouper, sharks, and pecker fish. Even with primo live bait, we did not catch much. Maybe the fish were in deeper water?
At noon, we headed to Dog Island Reef. I caught 3 nice trout, one at 24", one at 22", and one at 20", on a nylure and a pin. Lots of macks around, but they were eating the tiny rainfish bait and were hard to catch. Also caught a couple of nice blues. Al got an 18" trout, a blue, and a couple of rockies.

Total for the day: 4 trout, two blues, one mack. Slow, but nice.

We headed in at 1:30 to beat the ramp crazies, and only had to wait through three trailers. One idiot parked his trailer on the ramp, and had to be yelled at to move it. Well, whaddaya expect for Memorial Day Weekend?

Regards,

EJ

Yep. Definition below:

Pecker Fish: Small, annoying fish that peck at your bait. Also, fish about the size of a boy's apparatus.

There were plenty of crazies out there this weekend. Had one set his boat down within 20 feet off my CT and pinfish. He never did get why I was so rude to him. (To put it mildly) The thing is, we were the only two boats around. :x 10 miles from nowhere and a bunch of jetskies showed up, tearing up the water where I was fishing. Never seen that before. I was rude to them too. Thought I left that mess in the fresh water.

That can be really frustrating. Even though they deserve it, you really can't hit them with a sinker or threaten to beat the stew out of them. Other than being incredibly bad form, parking their sorry selves right next to your boat isn't illegal. If you hurt or say you will hurt them it is you that will be charged with something, not them.

It ain't worth it. But you wish you could!

Luck,

I know this will get me in trouble, but folks that come up on you, anchored 10 miles from no place, we used to say were using
"Georgia LORAN". Usual suspects were in a 24' Walkaround Proline, the "Official Offshore Boat of the State of Georgia".

I dunno. Probably refugees coming up to buy cheap gas. Nobody goes to Georgia from Florida to fish saltwater. In my day, we went to buy firecrackers and pecans, and to see red clay.

Its just a joke, with a layer of truth.

Now EddieJoe, your fresh meat here on this conversation about GA & FL, but Wevans has already been through this conversation so he ought to know better than to rile the Georgia boys again. I'm a citizen of both states. I was born and raised in the Big Bend of Florida, graduated from Wakulla High School in Medart. I've lived in Georgia for 15 years, so I have a soft spot in my heart for both places. They are both still DIXIE, that's the important part.

In 1970 Wevans. Went to school there when they were still the "Wakulla High Rebels". My class ring has a battle flag on one side and a Confederate Soldier on the other side. Also went to Crawfordville Elem., and St. Marks Elem. Went to JR. High in Perry.
