Penn Fishing Tackle is Ugly Now.

Post by jsuber »

Shakespeare Fishing Tackle has acquired the Penn Fishing Tackle Manufacturing Co. Penn has been a leader in saltwater rods and reels for a long time. For those of us who grew up fishing with Penn reels, we hope the quality remains the same.

That's interesting. Do you know when the acquisition took place? I have heard some grumblings from people who have bought Penn equipment over the past couple years (since they renumbered their reels), but the inshore reel I bought 4 years ago has been very reliable.

It was actually K2 Inc that bought Penn, they also own the Shakespeare and Pflueger brand along with a bunch of other sports brands, just another corporate takeover. Here is a link to all there brands:

thanks Finnie. I had no idea K2 owned all those companies. I thought they only made skis.

BTW, I hope to meet you this weekend at the tournament. I think you bought your Cape Horn from my friend who will be fishing with me this weekend.

I haven't seen anything about K2 but another paper wrote:

Fishing supplies firm acquires company
Columbia-based Shakespeare Fishing Tackle has acquired a Philadelphia-based saltwater reel company.

Shakespeare, a private manufacturer of fishing rods, reels and accessories, bought Penn Fishing Tackle Manufacturing Co. this week for an undisclosed amount.

Emily Linebaugh, a spokeswoman for Shakespeare, said Friday that there will be no immediate changes in operations.
