First boat to the lighthouse this morning. Met Reel Country as we were pulling away from the dock. Wind was howling about 15 out of the west so we took the buttpucker route over to the east flats just NW of black rock. Threw out the pinfish trap and started drifting with CT/Chart twintail grubs in 3-4 feet. Several shorts and 3 nice keepers to 20" were what we managed until the tide stopped falling about 9. Missed one HUGE trout on the pinfish rod. I saw him hit the fish. He scaled a palm size pinfish and left fang marks a good inch apart in the side.

Went back and picked up the pinfish trap and headed to my chum rock. Wind has now increased to 20 out of the SW. Seas are an easy 2-3 foot in 7 feet of water. After 2 attempts we finally anchored up and put out the chum block. My pawinlaw threw out a pinfish and I a shrimp, both under corks. Something immediately ran the pinfish to the top busted it, ran a short distance and let go. Sonny reeled it in only to find it had been crushed and mangled. About that time my rod doubled over and a 30 inch cobia jumps 3 feet in the air. I hook up with him and get a quick release boatside. We had constant action until the tide shifted us ever so slightly and pushed us to where we could no longer fish over the rock pile. We caught several nice rockbass, and missed a few good fish. I had to be back early to take my daughter to see Finding Nemo, so we headed back. Left the ramp at 11:30.

Nice short day, but will the wind ever stop blowing??

Not bad for fishin in a wind storm

and yes it will stop blowin, JUST AS SOON AS WE GO BACK TO WORK

Course, some like TC don't gotta worry bout that no more

Good job Tom,

Sounds like you sure made the most of a short day and still managed to find time for the family. Can't get much better than that. Even went to see a FISH MOVIE

How much water do you have at the rockpile you were fishing?

Depending on tide, 7-10 feet.

Can anyone provide GPS coords for the rock pile? Any format will do, I can conver them, I currently use dd,mm,ss. Also Tom mentioned the "black rock", I've heard of N...er head rock is this the same and do you have coords for that too?

Black rock is known by the other name as well. You can get the number for it from the area charts page. Sorry, but you can't have my rockpile number.

Aaaaah I get it, the rock pile is a honey hole. I thought it was an obvious location like the black rock. My mistake I had no intent to pry. It's funny that I call the black rock an obvious location but I've never seen it.

Quick question. Is Black Rock also know as Grey Mare?? I think it is but not sure. I sure that rock formation has many names. Thanks DTK.
