It's a good place to visit but I don't think you'd want to stay there. About 10 min. from Wingates by boat. Had some good shrimp there a couple of weekends ago, and actually was pretty family friendly the night we were there.

Wevans will fit right in at Big Jim's. Trail's End would be the better place to stay.

With the changes, issues, and "personality conflicts", I can't in good conscience send anybody to Wingates for any reason. It ain't Mr. Jack's place anymore. :smt011 :smt011

The only problem with Wingates is that the new owners had to quit letting all of the "local" buddies of Jacks get a free ride on the lodging and Boat slips, it is a business after all. Mr. Jack himself had a great iconic place, but It was getting run down and needed upgrading or it would have been gone completly years ago. Ask Jack what he thinks of the new owners verses the previous owners and you'll know that at least it's OK to come down past 5o'clockPM and not have to worry about a bunch of drunks hanging out on the porch cussing and carrying on in front of your kids. Sorry for the rant, but I've been down here at the lake near Wingates all my life and my family since '59 and It's better now than it has ever been.

That may be true. I never encountered those issues. I'm talking about other issues. Like nasty notes on your truck because you did not pay a launch fee before you left to go duck hunting or fishing. Didn't matter that there is no pay box and they weren't open for two hours before you left. Then they make you pay more than double the launch fee as a "penalty" and tell you they don't really need your business anyway. This happened to people that I recommended to launch there. They have not been the most personable folks to deal with the last few times I was down there, so I have chosen to go elsewhere. Also, the last few times I was down there, the food was not very good. I, too, have grown up around Wingates and Faceville. Used to spend my summers camping down there. Just don't feel welcomed or appreciated as a customer down there anymore.

At Big Jim's the women have at least 2 teeth and they know how to use them.

At Big Jim's most swagger in and stagger out.

At Big Jim's, on certain nights if you don't have a gun, they will issue you one.

At Big Jim's, the truth is seldom heard.

You speak the truth! I always have a "good time" when I go there. Our club always launches, stays and eats at Big jims. The rooms are not the nicest but the people and atmosphere are hard to beat imo. Plus, he'll get up and cook you breakfast. Just tell him how many and what time.
