Sheephead question?

Post by Seachaser »

Have never targeted sheephead, so here are a couple of dumb questions.

What are your favorite hook size and do you use a cork or do you tightline your bait?

I like to use a really small hook (less than a 1/0), I then place a couple of small split shot weights about 4-6" from the hook, thread a small piece of shrimp and drop it down. Try fishing the Wakulla river about 1/8th of a mile south of the 98 bridge and watch the magic happen. I hooked about 1/2 a dozen of them last week, all 12" or over. :D

(Unfortunately) :x I found 'em on saturday using small live shrimp on the smallest circle hooks I could find that morning. I ended up with a half dozen keepers, and the last one felt like a beast. I caught him right before heading back to the ramp--man was I disappointed to find out he wasn't a redfish. :smt010
