I'm heading down to Cape San Blas the first week of April and I was wondering how the fishing is that time of year? What to focus on, types of lures etc.?
Spanish mackeral should be around then, some spoons trolled around the sand bars...Redfish and trout should be in the potholes...a jig or fluke should be productive. The man in the brown suit might be on the sand bars out side the Cape
Inshore will be trophy trout season. You will also hook up on some big reds with occasional blues and spanish. And if you suck like I do, you can expect your fair share of door mats, pin fish, cat fish, and sheephead.
Try a chug-bug or Spook for some fun topwater action. Gulp under a CT or a DOA shrimp for reliable action.
Yeah, Barhopr, that's what I was going to mention. April - May is a great time for pompano off the beaches on the Gulf side of the peninsula. They'll go for pompano jigs or flies. It's an early morning game though. Normally the bite is over by 9:30 or 10:00.
