VHF Antenna

Post by Houndstooth »

I have installed a Cobra MRF55 radio in my pontoon boat. I was planning on putting the antenna (36" whip) on top of the back canopy frame. I was reading in the manual and read that the antenna shouldn't be more than 3'-0" from the radio. Is this true? If I mounted it the way I'm talking of it would be about 10'-0" from the radio. I flush mounted the radio in the dash.
Thanks
