Millers Landing 2/26/07

Post by caseycook »

Got off work, hooked up the gheenoe and made the short drive to Miller's Landing on Lake Jackson. Got to the lake at 5:50 p.m. and saw whitecaps on the water...the wind was blowing pretty damn hard. I knew it would be pointless to try to work the weedline as I'd have to paddle more than fish, so I just ran out into the middle of the lake and used the wind to drift across (almost like I was on the flats). Started off throwing the Horny Toad and had a few swirls and blowups, but none could get it in their mouth. I think the water was still a little too cold for the fish to be aggressive enough to really go after the Frog. Switched to the Ty Smith Special (7 inch Bass Assassin) and caught a 21" Pike and an 18" bass. Left the lake at 6:40 p.m. wishing I could've fished longer, but any day you can fish is a great day in my book.

Glad to hear you had success with that 7" bait. They are fun to use and fun to watch.

Good deal, Casey. Try drifting open water more often. You might be surprised.

Hate trying to fight wind with a paddle. Way to make the most out of it. Did you use that new Falcon?

The new falcon is freakin sweet!!!! Right now, I've got it set up to throw the horny toads as it's long enough to chunk the things a mile and has enough backbone to get the big boys out of the thick stuff. I know that I'll be tempted to use it on the flats though.

Glad you got out. Being on the water clears the cobwebs of work doesn't it?

Man youve got to hate it when the wind blows like that, but that water temp should be gettin right for some top water cause I ve been seeing some spawning activity starting this week. So the bite on top should be gettin good if the cold front dosent mess things up :x
