Key West Fishing - Need Advice

Post by Dale Hollow »

Hey Folks! :smt006 It's been a while since I've posted since moving from Tally back to Nashville TN. It's been close to 24 months since I threw a Cajun Thunder, or had the smell of Sail Cat slime on my hands.

Anyway, I've been invited to go out of Key West on a 52' Viking for a couple days offshore fishing and a couple days inshore around Marquese island. :o (There are 3 us splitting the cost of the fuel) My only previous experience is doing offshore grouper trolling (Stretch 30's and bottom fishing with cut bait and pin fish; Inshore experience is Cajun Thunders with Shrimp and SWAs.

My buddy wants to do some Fly fishing; however, I don't know how I could get the Cajun Thunder on the flyrod.

We are looking at lining up a few guides; however, I would like anyone to respond to me as to what I should expect in fishing these areas.

This is a dream trip for me and I'm wanting to make the most of it.

Many Thanks,

Dale I would look on the FS forum and look at the Keys section, they have a FAQ area that has some tips on the area....Best advice would be to stop at the tackle shop near your area and see what's biting...Make sure you get a god map and know where your at....there are quite a few no motor zones and protected areas down there.

Make sure to stop at Robbies and feed the tarpon, cheapest fun in the Key's no doubt...

Look forward to reading your report

Chalk - thanks for the advise.

Skeeter - My buddy told me that we would be doing some fly fishing. I always thought that Fly Fishing was for people who already had caught all of the fish that you would ever want to catch.

My goal for the week will be figuring out how to cast the Fly Rod with Cajun Thunder on the end of it. :o
