Polar/Dynasty Bay boats

Post by yukondon »

Hey guys Im looking at a 21' Polar Bay boat, just wondering if anyone had any experience with them and or what you thought of them? Im looking for something to fish the flats and run 10-20 miles out on smooth days to troll up a grouper.Think this will foot the bill? Thanks for the input.

Not sure you would want to go 20 miles off shore with that boat. Not saying she aint sea worthy but boats look big on the trailer and real small 20 miles off shore. Can that boat hold enough anchor rope to anchor out in 100+ feet of water if you break down and the radio is out. Cell phones don't work that far out.

I don't see why it would not work on 1 & 2's. Heck there are a lot of fish closer in than 20 miles.

That's a heck of a lot more boat than my bass boat, and I take mine out 20 miles :-D You just have to use a lot of common sense and look at all the weather conditions around the area

Thanks for the input guys! I realize shes not an everyday offshore kinda boat, but those few days a year that we get some smooth conditions would be fun to ride a few miles out and play.Wevans Ive been running around on the flats in a fiberglass bassboat for 3-4 years now.Works real good as long as I keep the whole lower unit intack :hammer: However it seems like about once a year that hasnt been the case. :smt013 I think the Polar will work out ok. 98% of my fishing will be inshore.

I've been grouper fishing out of a 21' Sea Pro bay for the last 2 years. Fish out of Shell Island Fish Camp in St. Marks. I am often 20 to 30 miles offshore. With a little common sense and a good eye on the weather no problem. Watch those summer thunder storms.

That should work. Just know your limits and abilities. Is it shallow enough to fish where you want inshore?

it should be ok on the flats, probably drafts less water than the bassboat! Hey RC I fished out of Shell Island fish camp a few times last year. You might wanna help a hometown boy out with a close in number or two  ?

I plan to start fishing some spots out to around 20 miles in my 20' Triton bayboat. Just pick and choose your days. I've had mine out in a close 3' chop and know it will handle it. I also have 300' of 3/8" rode in my anchor locker with 12' of chain and an 8# Danforth anchor. A good sea anchor will be added soon. Tow Boat US membership is recommended also. At cruise, 20 miles is less than a 1/2 hour run with my boat, so I can boogie it in if things start looking bad.

Yea sure!

I have a camper down there and go every other weekend. Look me up when you come down and I'll point you in the right direction.

There are tons of spots in 30' to 45'. Take a heading of 160 to 165 degrees from the tripod and go about 15 or 20 miles, 30'. Put out some stretch 30's, watch your bottom machine and you'll be in business. I often catch grouper as shallow as 20' but most of the time I run on out to at least 30'.

When it gets warm enough we do a lot of diving too.

Sounds like a winner. I work out @ Cooper Tire and will be off every other weekend. Try to get down there as often as weather permits.
