I think you use the lure you have confidence in. I wouldn't build up my confidence in our opinions. I would take our opions and try them to see if they fit into the way you fish. That being said, most of us have confidence in the Gulps since they ahve been around longer, but the Slurps have some really good action on the Shad Tails and could be very productive. I'll let you know when I get more experience with them.

Slurps vs Gulps

Post by Reel Cowboy »

Jsuber's right on the money, you can take along 20 pounds of lures and you'll use probably only 2-3 all day long. But to answer your question or just murcky up the water, I catch more fish with Gulps, but before the Slurp invasion SWA was the way to go. I've got a couple of bags of both and I use them both. Did that help? :-?

Ask JT how his GULP did Sunday. Then ask him how my soft plastic did Sunday.

I'm convinced GULP and SLURP are designed to catch fishermen. No doubt they work. But I don't think they work any better than anything else.
What was I supposed to do today?

I threw a couple of Slurps that Pat McGriff gave us the other day. They aren't any different that an Exude, Yum, S.P.I.C.E or anything else that has a "scent release formula". Only way they appear similar to a Gulp is the name as far as I can tell.

It has always been difficult for me to fish against anyone that fishes like a girl.
Not that he fishes like a girl.

During the warm months when the small bait picker fish are out I don't like using scented baits, too many little fish destroy the bait and at the price they charge for them (especially the Gulps) I just say no. Trout are ambush feeders and generally react to seeing the bait. Sure sometimes they may smell something and go see about it but most trout I seem to catch seem to just pounce on it, not much time to smell it out. Redfish may be a little better at smelling their prey but at the same time, they seem to hit other baits well also.

If you are working them as you would a non-scented plastic lure, they are going to bring very similar results.

But there is something to be said about a soft lure that you can tear a little piece off of it and put on a small hook to catch pin fish with.
