Kayak day at Keaton Tourney 10Mar07

Post by jsuber »

I got up at 4:00 am to head down to Keaton Beach from Crawfordville. Awful long ways to go to see Tincan first thing in the morning, but it turned out pretty good anyway. I left the start site and headed down that long windy pulp wood trail to the spot I would be fishing for the day. Having limited range in the kayak, I have to find areas that have all of the essentials to catch fish. Not necessarily big fish, but at least fish. I made my way from the Dallus Creek boat ramp and the morning was beautiful. The wind was down there and the water was barely making a ripple. I had pre-rigged four rods to catch some bigger trout in the morning, and I started off with my most trusted lure in some of the bigger creeks with a super spook. It didn’t appear that the timing was right for topwater so I switched over to a floating Bite-A-Bait and pulled her around just to work the water column. What beautiful bait. I almost jumped out of the boat twice to eat it myself. No LUCK! So, its down to my most trusted lure for catching trout. Unfortunately, the water was a little cold to catch the big trout with this lure, but the rest of the Trout seemed to like it. I picked up 8 trout with the Mirrlolure STTR(red top cloudy bottom) and kept 4 Trout. Lots of boats had started moving into my area and a fisherman that was from Gainesville told me about the great day he had in his bigger boat yesterday, but said it was a little windy for there today. Turns out the bigger fish were still there today, I just didn’t go. I decided to try my luck up in the creeks with so many boats around and happened on about 25 10-12â€
