Hey guys, new to the site but really enjoy browsing around here for hours it seems... Im about to buy a boat soon and have been looking at a 1979 Mako 23 foot center console with a 1995 Yamaha 225. Any thoughts? Good hull of no?

If you don't know much about boats and motors, take it to someone who does. The owner shouldn't mind if he's serious about selling it to you. The mechanic should check compression, electrical and load test the motor (run it in the water pushing the boat) and check the boat itself for rott. Tap it in many places with the butt of a screwdriver to hear if you have soft spots, especially the transom and deck. A mechanic will charge you for this service but it may save you from buying a headache. I might check with Wavel to see if he would do this. Good luck.

If you get to the point of serious considering, don't be shy paying for expert advice. Most reputable mechanics will do this for a reasonable fee.
Even with that. If your budget allows, go with a new motor.
My 2 cents.

The fuel tank should be inspected if there is anyway to see it without cutting open the floor. Mechanical inspection 4 sure. You can bluebook the value online. Unless it's been restored a '79 could be hard to sell which works to your advantage. The same would apply then for resell value if you were looking to sell.....

I have a 1985 Mako235, 23 foot open fisherman that I bought in 1985. I have taken it to the Bahamas, all over the Florida Keys including the backwaters in Flamingo and it has been superb. The 1979 hull you are mentioning is from a time period of Makos that were well made. Get a test ride I think you will be satisfied.
