thanks for everybody's help and follow-up.

SR-I gave Eddie a call and spoke with his wife. They are currently out of Bobwhites, but have Pharrow (sp) quail. They are apparently smaller and don't fly quite as well as bobwhites. Anybody have any firsthand knowledge of these birds? Think they'll fit my needs?

BH-sounds like Spring Creek is out as well, but thanks for the future reference.

DWilliams-I left a VM with Rackers and will provide an update when I hear back

If the Pharrows don't work out, then I'll try the ones in GA, but 1 1/2 hours is a little further than I was hopping to travel.

BD-we both know there's nothing wrong with pen-raised birds. Wild birds might just be a little much for the team at this point; a pup whose never been on live birds, a fiancee whose only harvest to date is a MI spike and a trainer who....well I don't have a clue what I'm doing :-D I figure if I get a couple good points, some dead birds and a retrieve or two then I'll be all smiles come dinner time.

can't wait, and thanks again

I didn't say there was anything wrong with pen-birds. Someone mentioned I might know of somewhere to buy them. By responding, I know nothing about pen-birds, I meant just that. I didn't know anyone that sold them.

I believe she meant Pharaoh Quail

Cran thanks for the info. Unfortunately the search isn't going well.

I was able to speak with Mr. Hunt today, and the Pharows he has are breaders (ie. few wings and don't really fly).

Received a return call from Rackers, and they out as well but recommend I try back shortly.

:-?

Looks like I'm going to have to expand the distance I'm willing to travel if I am going to find some birds for the pup.

He did pretty well corralling the mullet I netted last week. Maybe I should just turn him into a fishing dog...

I only shoot my turkeys from a limb. You have to "skillet shoot" quail while they're on the ground. :lick:
