The Boy Scouts have been using the electecs at their camps in the Keys for several years. I looked these engines over and I didn't see any corrosion issues. The mechanic said they had very few problems with them.

Redbelly, next time you are on the water take an additional 54 lbs with you and set it next to/or on the motor on the transom. That will tell you the drafting difference. Don't know the setup of your boat but if you could place a bucket or cooler next to the transom it will help you decide. 6.5 gallons of water is about 54 lbs in a cooler would work well. or about 66 cans of beer.

I just added a 24 gallon livewell in the rear deck of my Carolina Skiff. It will be interesting to see how it affects draft and handling. Hope to find out Saturday.

E-Tec Okay!

Post by Capt Reggie »

:smt006 I have a 2001, 135 HP Johnson, Model E-Tec (sort of a wierdo because Evinrude makes them now) that came on the boat - just bought it used 2 months ago! I love the E-Tec OB (very quiet and efficient so far) & the Key Largo boat :D ...I hate the trailer! :smt013

If I had to replace the engine tomorrow, I'de definately go with another E-Tec, but more power! :lick:

The TV ad suggest that you stupid if you have a 4-stroke because of the maintenance. Changing oil is rocket science I suppose. 8)
