200 HP Mercury Carbed outboard on 2002 Cape Horn Bay 22'.
As for being a carbed motor, it so far (been out twice, once last sept, and again in March.) it starts right up on cold start. We cranked it up on first try after sitting for 5+ months.

Reason for 2 stroke, its what was on the boat when we bought it.

1975 Merc 850 on a '75 Glastron V-156. Runs like a charm for a "black motor" with a top speed of 42 mph with just me

I CURRENTLY HAVE 2-40, 1-150, 1-33, 1-50, 1-5 1/2, 2-3 1/2 . 1-85 JOHNSON OR EVINRUDE. I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE MERCURY, IT WAS A 78 MODEL AND I BELIEVE TURNED OUT 75 H.P. , IT WOULD RUN LIKE A SCALDED DOG, BUT DO NOT EVER TURN IT OFF, IT WOULD NOT START UNTILL THE ENGINE HAD COOLED DOWN COMPLETELY. ALL OF THE OMC ENGINES I HAVE OWNED , AND I HAVE OWNED MANY, ALLWAYS RAN GREAT. THE 33 THAT I HAVE IS A 1949 YEAR MODEL AND IT PROBABLY HAS 3-4,000 HOURS ON IT, SHE IS GETTING TIRED LIKE ME JUST WORE OUT, STILL RUNS GREAT BUT HAS A SLIGHT ROD KNOCK ON THE BOTTOM PISTON, I HARDLY USE HER ANYMORE AND I AM TOO OLD TO REBUILD ANOTHER ENGINE. I JUST LIKE TO GO OUT TO THE SHOP AND LOOK AT HER EVERY NOW AND THEN. MANY GREAT MEMORIES WITH THAT BOAT. THE BOAT IS A LAP STRAKE LARSON ALSO 1949.

We got all 2 strokes 1-200 Suk (Great motor even at 12 years old) 1-70 yammie (1st Yamaha that we had and it sure has set the bar high) then there is old faithful 1988 30 hp Johnson she is always ready to go when you are. I've also had a 89 merc 150 on a bass boat. Man we would baby that thing and it still would tear up I think that when I sold that boat the whole thing had been rebuilt. I think that Merc has improved tons since 89 though but it still left an bad taste in my mouth.

Had a 1978 Evinrude 85hp made 38mph with the wind at my back. blew a cylinder.
Now have a 1988 Evinrude 70hp makes 33.5mph wind at my back, and glass slick water. 17' Key West

Gets better mileage than the 85hp.

Yamaha 150 2 stroke cause I wanted to max out the HP on the boat and Yamaha didn't make the 150 in a 4 stroke at the time. It has been a great one. Johnson 15 two stroke cause it was on the boat when I bought it.

Mariner 225hp 2 stroke - Carb/Guzzler. I would be willing to bet I can burn more gallons/hour then anything listed on this thread. :smt010 Nothing but yammy's before this boat.

'78 (I think) 70 HP Evinrude on a 15' Boston Whaler. It's Weaver Brown's boat, he loaned it to me.

If I buy a boat like this I think I want a Yamaha 40 horse 4 stroke with a tiller handle.

I have twin 03 Suzuki 140 4-strokes, they are pushing 300 hours and are the best outboards I have had. I picked the 4- strokes for fuel economy and I think they have delivered. The maintenance is easy, but you have take off one side of the lower cawling to change the oil filter.

Twin 225hp e-tecs 2 stroke on a 28ft mako walkaround. awsome power and quick to plane even when loaded down. a lot less weight than a 4 stroke and they're the quietest 2 strokes i've ever heard
