That's an awesome catch! I've been out at the Wakulla / St Marks intersection the last few days in a row and seen em flopping around in the evenings.

Didn't we have a thread on here perty recently about how it's illegal to land or boat tarpon without a kill tag? Good thing you had one on ya!

I spoke to an FWC officer about the kill tag and he said if the fish is out of the water just long enough to take a picture and then released unharmed, then it is perfectly fine to snap a couple of pictures. I am sure some treehuggers out there would disagree, but this fish swam away under his own power in good shape.

Are you the new internet FWC / Coast Guard / Maritime navigation law enforcement representative?

Well I didn't vote for me

I just wanted to point that out since I'd never heard of it before that thread, and had illegally landed a tarpon myself about two weeks previous. Just trying to keep the fellow fisher-people from gettin a stiff fine (and by the way, according to the article linked in that thread, the FWC guy was wrong; it specifically mentioned removal for picture-taking as illegal).

OK here's the old thread Thread about tarpon and Jewfish

I guess the catch and release videos were something I found after reading that and doing some google work. The article does say that the July release of Fishing lines was supposed to have something to say about it; anyone have one? If so, what does or doesn't it say?

Looks like they're at least not enforcing it yet at this time.

I guess they'll recommend geting a picture like this until someone loses a leg to a bull shark.
