Rhtfish, thanks for sharing... and unexamined experience is a wasted one. You were really resourceful considering. Glad you weren't injured.

Dayum. This makes me want to keep my VHF going while I am out there. What time of day did this happen? I was right there and I saw someone running over that way from the river while I was on my way in.
Just looked at my GPS I saw a boat headed that way at 2:30 Saturday. Hope that wasn't you.

Where were these rods? I dont have my gps here with me in Palm Coast and curious about where they were located. There are several dangerous areas. I have numbers on some pillings from birdracks that were destroyed by Dennis.
So glad no one was hurt! 5 people were killed in St Augustine this weekend when a 21 ft boat hit a tugboat in broad daylight.

How deep was the water where you hit the rod? That sounds like a pretty frightful event. Glad nobody was injured.

How's bad is the boat? What's it gonna take to repair the hull?
......I'm not sure about repair yet....the hole is about 3/4 fist size all the way through and there is buckling around the hole for several inches on the inside.
The obstruction punched through the kelvar bottom layer and nearly 4" of bottom. I'm checking with some folks now on possible repairs.
RHTFISH... Did you ever find someone to fix your boat? I was talking with a friend at work and he said he knew a handyman that fishes down your way, and that he might help you get a few more trips out of her. I understand he is really good with duck tape. Have you seen him?
