That place freaks me out. I've never ventured down the river because of all bad stories. I'm glad I read this forum because I would have check out the river without any knowledge of what learks under those waters. I pitty the people who haven't a clue.

This is on my to do list. I've seen it low on a neg tide but really want to see it LOW. Put in Sunday morning and couldn't help but remember the time I pulled up to the ramp and saw JT and Birddog staring at BD's boat sitting on the ramp after some "miscommunication" by the launch crew. :-D
BD didn't think it was so funny.

I never will forget the winter low I was heading out and saw that BIG AZZZ rock dead center of the river a little down from the landing. i always was told to stay right going out, and I saw why. But i have seen rocks waiting on the right too. My sphinxter always got good exercise when i launched there. Only when I had the go devil or the tunnel did i feel OK.

I have a picture of the ramp on a negative low tide...

On a negative low tide you get a better chance to "see" the rocks before impact.

I was towing a gentleman back to the launch of the Aucila Sunday. THAT is the scariest thing to do. I would rather be up on plane and praying. We made it back safe.

I've seen the 'land bridge' just below Mandalay on the negative tides in the winter. Very similar to the pics mjsigns posted above. Easing down that river in the winter when the water's clear and low will tighten up muscles in interesting parts of your body. Here's a chart from Jerry's, but my disclaimer is the same as his! All bets are off on low tide, too. http://www.jerrysbait.com/AucillaRiver.aspx

That Chart is a nice starter, but there are surprises on that route for sure. It would be the path to follow, just be wary.
