BBG, the the cut lines were due to structure I think. And yes, rigging multiple rods to a single hook (using a much heavier leader) adds a LOT of strength. It is very easy for 4 rods rigged with 80# braid to break uncompromised 150# leader. Go to a big wreck and give it a try!
