Couple of ata boy's to Ty and Wevans. That was a fine catch. I know Eerman had a special guest as his partner... good deal there as well. I had a very special friend all the way from Hallsville (near Columbia) Missouri. Larry Jones, who was visiting, agreed to subject him self to the going's on that are associated with our tournaments (no small commitment!). We had fished a bunch of times as boys growing up in MO but it's been 25 plus years since we've been able to fish together and Larry had never fished on the saltwater flats much less a tournament. He mastered the art quickly and even with the weather we had to deal with, as well as the scattered fish (for us anyway), he enjoyed the day and I heard him very clearly say... "I could get use to this!" :D Although we didn't finish in the money (ended up 4th) we did have a good weight for just 3 trout plus the #2 big fish and a nice blue as our bonus fish. Got a couple of pictures but they are on their way back to Missouri in Larry's digital camera.

If we'd have been able to finish out a 5 fish limit we'd have really been in the running. Eerman (my partner this year until this tournament) now has jumped ahead of me in the points...by ONE! :D Sure wish I'd have elected to put in at the Aucilla!!.. I guarantee there'd be some great pictures of some of the launches :smt005 Sorry I had to leave the weigh in so early... more family waiting at home and I had 8 T bones to cook.... did I mention that I had to put my frog toggs back on to grill in the back yard and hang a wash tub over my grill to keep the rain from drown'n my fire  GREAT WEEKEND... THANKS FELLOWS... YOU TOO LADIES!

sorry not to to make it to weigh in. I wasn't sure if everyone was going to stay near the water that long or just head home. My partner and I didn't have enough fish to weigh at any rate, so we headed for home. Only one keeper trout in the boat, and it was caught by partner. I lost one keeper boatside, and I had a second keeper take my jig and CT. We relocated the CT (and attached trout) going back for a second drift and made a couple attempts to snag it with a skitterwalk, but it wasn't happening. Haven't lost a CT in a long time; don't know if I had a fray in the powerpro or what. Also managed one short red. By about 11:00 the water was getting a little angry for the Gheenoe and we took a couple waves over the stern. That's when we decided to head in using my boot as a bail along the way. Sorry I didn't get to meet more of you, but there's always next time. well done Wevans and Ty.

Here is the play by play:

Meet at Jerry's, Wevens and I stick around a while to see if the weather will pass. After an hour or so and no rain yet we leave for the Spring Creek Ramp and figure we would stay around Shell Point so When the weather got bad we could get under a house.

Started our morning at one of my favorite oyster bars. First trout caught was a chunky 23". I caught the 23" Trout after it missed wevens topwater. (Thanks for locating that fish wevens). when we left that bar we went to my real favorite bar and that is where we stayed.

At 9:27am we had five Trout all over 19" and the one 23". We knew it was going to be a great day of fishing.

About 10 or 10:30am the thunder, lighting and the rain began to approach, we stayed in it a while. Then seeing the heavy stuff coming from Panacea we decided it was time to find some cover. We went to a house under construction and stood under it for about an hour.

When the rain let up we went back out and the fish were still there we caught a lot of fish and had a great time.

It was great to finally meet you wevens and I am sure I will see you around.

Thanks for the report Showboat. It was good to meet you at Jerrys. My partner had a line break on a CT Saturday as well. I found out that the drag was set way to hard and was a bit sticky however even with that it was a good fish and the CT never surfaced. We also lost a really good trout, probably 19 plus at the boat. Was a couple of feet from the net when it departed  Glad you made it back in safe and sound....
