I just recently purchased a 2400 CC Century with twin 150 4 stroke Yammy's. It is extremely fuel efficient for that size boat and will boogie if need be. Problem is I have the itch to get back to the inshore stuff from time to time and have no way of doing it (besides friends). Trying to talk my wife into a 14ft Jon boat with a 15 or 25. I think with those two rigs I can pretty much cover the Gulf. I do miss my 201 Pro-Guide Back Country, but not the threat of losing the lower unit to Aucilla Rocks. :o The idea of having a boat with a motor that will kick up on impact is dreamy. :smt007

2012 skeeter 24zx 300hp four stroke with custom T-top. Went for demo ride at Rock the Dock. Hit 63mph and turns on a dime going 35mph, although we got soaked when wind blew water back over us, most fun i've had since playing on a super charged honda jet ski a few years ago. The $80,000 price tag is a little scary though.

Ouch, saw a 2012 Yellowfin with a 250 for $60 that sold in two days. $80k for a Skeeter...

Brian & SG,
You were asking why I haven't made the leap to powerboating. Wish I had a more compelling and eloquent response than to say it comes down to equal parts simplicity and joy. I actually saved up, broke down, and bought that fancypants 4HP Torqueedo electric that only weighs 29 pounds including the battery. It remains in the box, unopened, after a year (anybody want to buy it at a big discount?). So far, the range limitations of being on foot or portaging a solo canoe don't outweigh the addictive thrill of fishing in tidal creeks under conditions that make them seem like my personal playground.

I honestly don't get much of a rush from the soft-mud stagger to some of these shallow bonanzas, but it sure is a kick once one gets there.

That said, outside of full or new moon low tide situations, you guys will outfish me 9.5 times out of ten. I suspect once I retire from coaching in a few years, it won't be long before long before I join the prop-driven club. Then I'll have no excuse for getting blanked on a risen tide. Plus: wow, those sure are some purty boats!

Now we're getting into dream boat territory, so here's mine: an American Custom Yacht 65 Traditional, built in Stuart. With a full-time captain, mate, flats skiff strapped on the bow and paid for, of course.

Gary, you could probably sell that Torqueedo engine for nearly retail on eBay, although don't shortchange yourself on shipping costs. And I still admire your tenacity, albeit insanity, for playing amongst the gators and bull sharks.

As far as trailer launching and loading, if you're having trouble the trailer is not set up properly or positioned correctly at the ramp. Even that 36 Yellowfin can be slid off and loaded back up solo with practice and the right trailer bunks/guides/ramp placement.

Great thread.
