I know plenty of folks who fish live bait at Keaton.

HEY SNOOK, YA EVER FISHED THE INSIDE DOWN AT EL JOBEAN, I USE TO SLAY THE SNOOK IN THE PASS. THERE USE TO BE SO MANY IN THAT PASS THEY LOOKED LIKE CORD WOOD STACKED UP. YA WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO KNOW A FELLA NAMED LAMAR HEARN WOULD YA, HE AND I USE TO FISH THE RAILROAD BRIDGE DOWN IN BRADENTON AT NIGHT, CAUGHT SOME MONSTERS THERE.

thanx for the welcome.. tidedancer i live on 19th nw . if your friends live on 15 nw were almost neighbors thats off shell point rd. may even know them, i know alot of the community thru the FISH HOUSE and in the angling world around here. as far as eljobean ive fished there afew times with friends that have a place down there. and fished parts of charollete harbor growing up ,with my father..mostly trout fishing, and when i could talk him into to it we would tarpon fish. I primarly fish the south east end of tampa bay for the last 12 years and before that i traveled up and down the coast thru the snook range from the anclote river down to charollete harbor but it gets harder and harder to drag me away from MY 13 miles of shoreline -- even though im having to share it more and more and they call it "progress"

Hey Snook, where did you catch pogies at Keaton? I've fished there several times over the past 3 years and I 've never seen them. I've fished with them for years at Apalatch. and I agree that they are hard to beat. Pin fish get expensive and I'm not quite secure enough in my trout catching abilities yet, to go all artificial.

Pinfish do get expensive but not if you catch them yourselves. Its real easy with a sabiki rig with small hooks and little pieces of Fish Bites bait-bait, shrimp, or other piece of bait like stuff. The bait-bait works best because it doesn not come off the hook as easy. Give it a try, no to hard.

P.S. They do get expensive, I have thought about going out and catching them and selling them to pay for the trip. Live shrimp is much cheaper than pinfish but you have to fight the bait stealers.

perch jerker , i would come out of keaton the little campground there and head south toward a big point probably 4 or 5 miles south. and just start looking in about 4 ft of water and it didnt take no time to spot them. then i went to about 6 ft and would start a drift till we caught a trout throw the hook out and chum with livies till we caught our limit or we tired of catching. the sharks would come to us sometimes and spook things for a little while and we were either through or we would just let things settle down and then fire them up again. alot of beautiful trout with a few blue fish a couple of the days we were there. we were there right after the storm first part of july and south was where the water would clean up. the trout on average were better than we have down here that late in the summer. had a blast. looking forward to econfina this july.

Snook, nice strategy. I've never done much anchoring and chumming on the flats but it makes sense. Works in other places. I'll be trying it next time, which is shaping-up to be this weekend! Weather is suppose to be nice and I've about got all the ducks in a row. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

jump trout .. we caught some of all sizes didnt need a ruler at all, alot of fish was around the 20"mark with a few 22"' 23" i would guess an average of about 17" 18" overall. they were not too wormy either.

When you are tournament fishing the more worms the better. Those worms are heavy.

never thought of that... i fished a tournament trail in 97 called the SFFA salt water flats fishing assoc. it was a photo format fishing for the inshore slam: snook,trout,red it was fun till my team won the championship. and all the real sportys got chaped about calling our name out. "the redneck bait slingers" had to take a polygraph test and it was still months before we received our purse. kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. havent fished any tournys since except a couple of local chamber of commerce tournaments.

Take a kid with you if you want pinfish. My son will fish for them for hours. He'll catch more than we can use. We normally cut the butthole out of a trout and use it for bait.

You could fish our tournaments although we give polygraph. If you fail you have to fish another one.
Read all the post. Chalk and Tincan are still fishing. They don't get a rest until 2010.
