It's not really a big party. Just everyone keeping to themselves except one or two. But we need to make it a big party with about 10-15 boats!!

Where is Keaton Beach??, and how far is it by water to St. Marks?? Must not be in my neck of the woods............

Keaton Beach not close to St. Marks. That would be a good ride by water. :o

Seanile look just below Keaton you'll see Piney Point. That's my favorite hang-out. Drop just below there you'll see two tiny dots. That's Big & Little Grassy Islands. I usually fish between Piney Point and Big Grassy. Until this year, this time of the year we really have a problem with too clear water. Gin clear most of the time, with huge grass beds as far as you can see. Like it used to be out of Spring Warrior before most of the grass beds died.

someone made the run from st marks to keaton last month and posted about the trip. seems like it took about 35-40 minutes running 35 mph

I run from the Keaton public ramp to Piney Point. It's 11 miles. I cruise an average of about 20-25mph. It'll take about 35 minutes. If there's a chop, everything changes. My boat is made by Wetyoazz.
I made the run from Shell Point to Keaton staying in sight of land many years ago but don't remember how long it took. Besides, you'd most likely run straight across.

CS, you sure about the miles, that seems awful far for that short distance. I have been to 9 mile bank and that is past Piney Point. And it is 9 miles outa Keaton.

No not sure. My brother-in-law gave me that info. Told me he got it from his GPS. That's from the ramp at the far end of the canal.
He's retired Navy, so you can't believe most of what he says.

dbplug - Thanx, I just found this forum the other day, and had been thinking I could make some friends that "might" want to go fishing. It's been hard to find people who love to get out, share in gas, enjoy the water and put some fish in the box. So I thought out of desperation that I would try this forum.

CSMARINE and a friend of his are coming down saturday, and I actually have room for 1 or 2 more. I'm going out for what someone on this board called "groupa diggin" :lick: , Your welcome to come along. With me being a Navy guy and CS and his friend being Marine. I need all the help I can get. :D

I'm hoping to land some 28"+ grouper and anything else that'll be stupid enough to take a bite.

Man, I'll tell ya, I was out at 24 over the week of July 4th and I remember seeing this huge 5-6 ft. elongated fish sitting of the back end of my boat. That SOB just wouldn't go away!! I'd throw out in front of it, and he would swim away. Then the freakin' fish would come back. I did the same thing. Went away and came back. Needless to say I wish I had a decent gig about 10' long, I'd have nailed that one :hammer: . Anyhow, the morale of the story is, that not all fish are stupid

bigshark88- I saw the pic. That looked like a really wimpy cut. Did it hurt?? I saw the pics. Nice job. lot of clarity from the camera. Glad you were able to come along. If you think you can stand being around this sailor, your welcome to join me again. Maybe next time we'll catch some fish.

I'm definately planning on taking the dive gear out in a couple weeks to hunt them grouper down to see what they're problem is.
