Apalach near Blountstown

Post by chugbug »

We just found out that my wife has an aunt that lives in Chipley. I was talking to a guy at work and he said it was near blountstown and the Apalachicola (sp) river. Is it any good fishing in this area? I plan on taking the boat, we're staying the entire weekend. I guess she has a big pool and a few ponds in the back yard to keep my daughter and I busy for a few hours. The wierd thing is she called us and wants us to come visit. I don't even know how she got our phone number but we're gonna go meet her.

"Big" river the locals call it. Beautiful this time of year with all the
willows hanging over banks! I heard storms last year did a lot of damage to river facilities at Blountstown...hopefully someone with first hand
knowledge can advise.

Look forward to a report!

While moonlitin recently I caught a large sailcat on a ChugBug that
really thought he was a tarpon...three nice jumps! Fun!
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Is there any good freshwater fishing near Chipley then? I don't want to drive that far after I get there.

We might try that out. It's a spring fed lake.

You're also close to Ocheesie (sp) Lake. If you decise to go to the big river, the fishing is good. Fish the blowdowns along the ricewr bank . Try a buzz bait early. Try crankbaits and worms on up in the day. Make sure your trolling motor batteries are charged. The river is running more swift than usual right now.
What was I supposed to do today?

Chug, you are real close to the Chipola River too. Take Hiway 71 south, just past I 10 turn West about 2 miles to the public boat launch. Would not advise going with a big boat though. Bear Paw Canoe/Kayak and tubes rental will be on the right.
I have found that the fish in Merritts Millpond are pretty tight lipped. The water is beautifully clear and shrinkingly cold :D

Well we went but didnt take the boat. We weren't sure we were going to stay. Come to find out she owns 113 acres with two ponds. They kept me busy as well as looking at her Mustang full of Wasps (got stung on the lip). Next time I wont be so nosey and I'll take the boat. Thanks for all the replies.
