Me, my Father, and my Brother-In-Law (Keith) put in at the Fort about 0630. Our plan was for Dad and Keith to fish the flats for a while for trout and spanish while I loaded the livewell with pinfish. The bite, including pinfish, was extremely slow, and by 1000 or so we had only one trout and one spanish in the box. Other fish we caught on the flats included a ladyfish, two lizard fish and a catfish. Fortunately, we were able to catch a dozen or so pins, so off we went to Dog ballard
There was no one else there, so we had our pick of reefs. After anchoring we dropped the live bait to the bottom, and before long Keith's rod bent over. After a few minutes we saw the fish, a cobia, and after a few more minutes we boated this beauty

We were fishing the live bait on the big poles, so I was fooling around with shrimp on light tackle while waiting for the next bite. Nothing wanted shrimp, so I decided to try a fillet-o-pinfish. After a short wait the small rod bent over and the drag was screaming. After about ten minutes we netted this 24" gag. I was surprised to say the least.

We got a couple more bites on live bait, but the food of choice seemed to be the pinfish fillets. The next bite on the same light rod and reel resulted in the longest fight of the day. Finally, my Dad exhausted this 34" keeper, and in the box it went.

I was cut off quick two or three times using cut bait. and once at the boat by a four foot shark.
We had a great day on the water and fried cobia fillets for supper.
