Repair referral
Need to get a boat back in running shape that has been sitting up for too long (18 mos plus).
Had heard good things about Porter (Wavel) but just called and they said they are full up with work through end of June. I need it for June 24....
Anyone got a referral for me? The guy at Porters mentioned someone named Rex, also in Woodville.
Ps. There is no chance that I can do it, even a tuneup, no matter how simple.....

Personally I would be wary of Rentz. A relative took a rig to him for a specific evaluation. $600 later we found out he did not do what he said he did and charged for doing. After confrontation,he blamed it on a mechanic who was no longer there. He offered nothing to remedy the situation and basically said tough luck.

HEY BLIND HOG, GET SOME CHEMTOOL FROM THE PARTS HOUSE OR WALLY MART, TAKE THE COVER AND FILTER OFF THE FRONT OF THE CARBS AND SQURT ABOUT 2 SECONDS OF THE CHEMTOOL IN THE CARBS AND LET IT SET OVER NIGHT, THEN TRY STARTING THE ENGINE BUT BE SURE YOU HAVE WATER TO THE PUMP, EITHER WITH RABBIT EARS OR IN THE WATER, IF IT STARTS IT WILL CONTINE TO RUN UNTILL ALL OF THE CHEMTOOL HAS BEEN USED UP, EVEN IF THE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. THIS IS WHAT MANY OUTBOARD MECHANICS DO ANDTHEN CHARGE YA FOR A CARB. REBUILD. THE CHEMTOOL CUTS ANY CORROSION OR TAR LOOSE AND DESOLVES IT. I DO A LITTLE WORK ON SMALL OUTBOARDS AND THIS GENERALLY WILL GET THEM GOING. IF DIRT DOBBERS HAVE BUILT A NEST IN THE CARB. IT THEN WILL HAVE TO BE TAKEN APART AND REBUILT. THIS PROBABLY WILL NOT HAPPEN UNLESS THE FILTER HAS BEEN REMOVED AND NOT REPLACED.
GOOD LUCK

No luck on "home repair". After putting on a new and fully charged battery, I got absolutely Nothing from the motor, so havent even been able to try the carb cleaner spray out.
And to boot, the power tilt works intermittently (did last night, wont this AM). Could be electrical stuff afoot.
Thinking I may be in for a shop repair (and bill) after all. Anyone know the name of the place near RMS on 98 just down from Wakulla High?
Other referrals to local area repair shops?

Happy ending
I think I may have a happy ending to this tale thanks to Sir Reel and JumpTrout51.
Having assumed too much --- that buying a new battery, charging it, and putting it in means you have spark --- the problems simply traced the "problems" to a bad battery connection. Like they both told me, something dont have to look totally rusted out to be a poor conductor.
Tilt trim runs fine and the motor actually kicked. Didnt run but 3 seconds since no hose handy to hookup. Will run at home with water tonight and know for sure.
Thanks again to Steve and Bud. The checks in the mail.

IF YOU GET IT TO FIRE IT SHOULD RUN. WHEN YA GET IT STARTED DO NOT REV THE ENGINE TOO HIGH AND SQUIRT A LITTLE OF THE CHEMTOOL IN EACH CARB, IT WILL INCREASE IN RPMS WHEN YOU DO THIS, LET IT IDLE BACK DOWN AND SQUIRT THE CEMTOOL IN AGAIN JUST VBERY LITTLE, DO THIS ABOUT 5 TIMES AND IF THERE IS ANY TAR OR CORROSION IT WILL DESOLVE IT OUT AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE.
BY THE WAY I CAN NOT FIND JIMMY'S PHONE NUMBER, I WENT THROUGH MY PHONE BOOK AND IT MUST HAVE FALLEN OUT AT SOME TIME. IF HE CALL ME TONIGHT I WILL GET IT THEM.
