Got to the lighthouse at first light. Thought we would beat the rush at the ramp..wrong! The line was from the ramp all the way back to the main road. Everyone seemed to be going east, so we went west. My partner put on a top water clinic all the way until the sun got up a little bit. Luckily we already had 8 in the box (6-top water, 2-jigs) up to around 19-in. Not another fish in the box the rest of the day. Headed in around lunch.
Every fish caught on top water was a keeper. I was busy with the fish on jigs, but they just weren't keepers. We did hook up with something on a pin fish/CT behind the boat. He was smoking drag on a 40lb outfit. I applied a little more pressure so he wouldn't spool me and the hook (eagle claw featherlite) straightened. I'm thinking big shark. Great day on the water with flat calm seas and plenty of sunshine.
