Fished Aligator harbor this morning (Friday June 16)

Post by abcarias »

Hung out with the pelicans crashing bait and caught Spanish, lady fish, cats, and sharks from the yak early this morning. Saw no Tarpon. I did paddle from landing near St Theresa to the point across the harbor and saw a couple flats/fly-fishing boats anchored up waiting for poons to come by. Saw no action.

The cats are really annoying so I used larger lures with larger hooks and removed the front trebles to make it easier to release fish with my dehooker. Some of the sharks were big and liked to crash my top water baits. They can really tow a yak.

Might go back with the fly-rod tomorrow.

No reds no trout.

Interesting.
Some diety descended upon me this morning and took my kids (and my wife!!) to Atlanta for the weekend. I was considering AP as the place to go Sat early. Weather looks good:
SATURDAY
EAST WIND 5 TO 10 KNOTS...BECOMING ONSHORE NEAR THE COAST. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. PROTECTED WATERS SMOOTH TO A LIGHT CHOP.
(East, so what)
I was wondering. did you try shallow on the west side of the point?

It was like glass first thing this morning. Perfect for throwing flies. Once the wind kicked up I had a hard time fishing. Didnt really get to explore the island much (too windy by then). Checked out the bridge as a launch and it should be fine.

If we put out baits, I can guarantee you the cats and sharks will get it first unless we can find happy Tarpon gulping first light.

Give me a buzz if you can.
