Late Evening at Econfina

Post by Welby »

In an attempt to bet the heat, I figured a late evening trip was in order. I took two younger fishing buddys along for the ride. We put the boat in the water just before 5PM and loaded up at 11PM. Yes, that's right, 11PM. I had been wanting to do that for a while now. When we got there the water was perfect, just a little chop. We started getting bites right away. Must have been Pinfish or rockbass or something small, we couldn't get any hook-ups. All three of us using jigs under CT's with different color grubs (Electric Chicken, Candy Corn, and New Penny) all working equally well. Since I have been celebrating Fathers Day all day so far and have not got into the cooler yet, I do not have an exact count. I think we have 7 or 8 trout, 1 rockbass, and 1 Bluefish. I will confirm this count after the cleaning. Just before dark it got really windy and really choppy. It was a great experience being out there after dark. The big fish of the day was this 22-1/2" trout caught by this expert fisherman

The count ended up being 7 trout, 1 Blue, & 1 Rockbass. I gave my Dad a nice mess of fillets...."Happy Fathers Day", he was very pleased.
Total:
1 - 22-1/2"
1 - 19-1/2"
2 - 17-1/2"
3 between 15" & 16 "

Bluefish 18"
Rockbass 11-1/2"

Is smoked Bluefish any good ?

WELBY, WE TRIED IT FRIDAY NIGHT, SPENT TO MUCH TIME CHASING REDS THAT WERE NOT THERE, A GUY AT THE RAMP SAID HE CAUGHT LOTS OF REDS AND TROUT AROUND PALMETTO ISLAND. WE FISHED AROUND THE ROCK GARDEN WITHOUT MUCH LUCK. AT DUSK WE WENT OUT TO A LITTLE DEEPER (5') AND STARTED THROWING BIG TOP WATER PLUGS. THE MORE NOISE THE BETTER IT WAS. HAD SEVERAL BIG FISH FIT AND MIS WE CAGHT --- 4 CATFISH, 2 TROUT THE BIGGEST WAS 23", 1 BIG MACKERAL, 1 BIG BLUE FISH, SEVERAL LADY FISH, 2 JACK CRAVELS BIGGEST WAS 15-20LBS. IT WAS REAL FUN WATCHING THE SHARKS TRY TO TAG THOSE TOP WATER PLUGS.

LOTS OF FUN, THE WIND DID PICK UP AROUND 10 PM MADE FOR A ROUGH RIDE BACK IN.
