TDs to Lat/Long
I know it's been covered several times over the years but, I can't seem to find it in the old post. Does anyone have the web site that will allow me to covert some old Loran positions in TDs to Lat/Long position for my GPS. Thanks.
I don't think you can get closer than about 2/10 of a mile coverting them. Take a look at this

You gonna talk, or you gonna fish?
I bought a program from Underwater Hunter to convert Loran numbers.
I converted about 200 numbers. The trick is to put your own correction into the equation. It tells you how to do it.
This past weekend we were diving. Had a number for a 5' ledge. Anchored up on the number and when I went in the ledge was right under the boat. Most of the other spots I have checked out I found good structure on the bottom machine within 50' of the spot. I haven't had a chance to dive many of them but I am working on it.
It does work. I was surprised.

Go to: http://webcrawler.com/
Type in: convert LORAN
Learn all you ever wanted to know about LORAN/GPS conversions- mucho sites.
Commercial software-
http://www.andren.com/
http://www.offshorehunter.com/OffshoreH ... ftware.htm
Or download posaid.exe (DOS) at: http://www.rdc.uscg.gov/Misc/POSAID2/ta ... fault.aspx
The commercial stuff is probably based on posaid.
From what I read, I doubt any of the available apps will get you more than a 150yrds or so accuracy.

From what I had read I wasn't expecting the accuracy I have had either.
the trick is to go to a known point for the loran coordinates you are converting and get the Lat/lon numbers. From that you develop your own correction for that loran and area and apply that correction to all your conversions in that general area. If you fish several areas or have numbers from different loran units I would find a new correction number.
I was surprised how well it worked.
takes some time and like most programs you have to work through the learning curve. Took me 3 days to convert 200 numbers but it was winter and I couldn't fish anyway.
