The KFS Honeymooners, J.J. and Casper (both retired USAF folks) were passing thru on their way home to Texas after starting in the Keys and fishing their way with various KFS folks up to North Georgia, and then back down to I-10. Unfortunately, Ron and Charles couldn't make it at the last minute, so it was Bakertize, myself, and the Honeymooners to give Spring Creek a try. The day dawned hot (very hot!) and sunny, but no rain! Complete flat calm upstream from Oyster Bay, our ultimate destination. We detoured upstream for a short stretch to see the freshwater boil coming to the surface, but nada, no boil at all. Water table may be so low, the spring has shut down for a spell. Anyway, we fished here for about 30 minutes and then began a slow drift/pedal downstream. Here is JJ in action (or inaction, as the case may be), with the extensive Juncus marsh stretching out for miles behind him.

Casper apparently has a thing about gators, since that was the first thing she asked me about before our trip. I assured her that there were no (big) gators around on this stretch of the river. But, I didn't have the heart to tell her that we ended up fishing just offshore from a couple of apparent (big) gator haul-out spots, this being one of them. Happily, no one was at home since I was blocking his/her main escape route from the reeds when I took the pic. Note the “holeâ€
