Motor fun

Alright folks, lend a man a hand. Went out today and everything was running fine. Was about 200 yards from the marina when I start losing RPMs, alarm sounds, and the motor quits. Starts right back up again but is making a strange "clicking" sound. Putter into the marina. Load the boat onto the rack. Look over everything, don't see anything irregular. Put the muffs on, starts right up but still has the continuous alarm and the strange "clicking". The motor is a Yamaha F115. Now to confess, I ran aground hard today; but that was first thing this morning and everything ran well for several hours after that. I also ran through alot of floating grass. Any chance something got sucked into the intake? Motor was still "peeing" good even with the alarm. Would muck in the intake cause the clicking sound? Have I really screwed up and knocked something loose or broken something? Any ideas?

I'm definately not the most motor savvy fellow on the forum, but I do run aground a lot. 1st thing I would do is disconnect the pee hose and let it blow out any larger debris that may not be able to come through the plastic exit hole. After that, I'd call TinCan.

Time to trade

Four stroke right? Have you had it in for it's warranty maintenance? I hear some of them new four strokes will make you go to the shop when you have reached a certain number of hours.

Other than that..don't know...I would of worked on it until I figured it out...But I'm anal like that, well I have been told that anyway

Thanks guys. Chalk, I would have worked on it; but, I'm dumb enough not to know where to start. Probably will go get it tommorrow to bring home and break it some more. TC charges about $5/hr right?

2. TC's booked up till next Sunday. Granddaughters are spending the week.

That's why I would of stayed until I figured it out, would of worried the sheet out of me. Probably nothing...don't sweat it, you know the old saying, don't you...

Maybe I can attempt to put your train back on the rails and motivate some of our folks who actually know something to give you some suggestions.... Let's talk about the click'n....

1. Do you hear it BEFORE the alarm goes off??

2. Did you notice any difference (at all) in the motor sound after you ran aground?

3. Can you tell if the sound is coming from the power head area or the lower unit??

4. Does the clicking sound seem to be associated with engine RPM??

5. Is the sound consistent, regular, intermittent?

6. Can you describe the sound as metallic, plastic, high pitch, low pitch, etc.

7. When you had it on the rack, did you spin the prop to see if there was a wobble, put it in gear (engine off) and check to see if the prop was not movable, etc.

8. Question for somebody who knows....could Eerman have a thermostat problem?

9. When you had it out of the water with the muff's on and running, did you hear the clicking noise?? if not, you may have an issue where having the prop under a load (pushing against water) is telling us something about the nature of the problem.

Hope something here helps to lead you to a solution.
