Thumbnail size pigfish worth $90

Post by Jumptrout51 »

The NFGFC July "Trash Fish" tournament blasted off with 22 anglers. It was a very Hot Humid Still day on the water. That however did not stop the entrepid anglers from catching lots of species.
Keith Cardin and Wes Swineberg took top honors with 12 species including a tiny, tiny, tiny pigfish. Pictures were taken but will have to be digitally enhanced to distinguish the fish from Capt. Keiths' thumbnail. Nevertheless, first place was worth $90.
Top Big Fish honors was taken by none other than "The Sopchoppy Redneck". A grouper weighing in at over 14 pounds was also worth $90. Wevans was not willing to share the grouper at the cookout. Stingy Redneck!
Species presented for counting included;grouper, trout, redfish, flounder, blues, mackeral, rockbass, jack crevalle, ladyfish, pinfish, pigfish, remora, catfish, shark, lizardfish, dogfish, white trout.
Second place was a tie between Wetjet and Jumptrout51 at a count of 11. Third place was Craig and Dawn Dennis at 7.
At times the slick water was alive and busting with giant schools of jack crevalle and redfish. Yep,redfish schools so large the water they were pushing rose 6" above the otherwise slick surface.
Don't think for one minute a mutiple species tournament isn't fun or challenging. Everyone was surprised by how difficult it was to get a species in the boat and then move on to another. It was the first time in my life of fishing I netted a pinfish.
We will most certainly repeat this event next year.

Congratulations to Team Cardin and to the 1st and 2nd losers

Also to Wevans on his grouper. You got to admire anyone willing to go after grouper in a bass boat.

Looks like everyone had a great time.

It was definitely different from our typical tournament (if there is such a thing :D )

My partner was Mrs Sir Reel and She did a super job and hung tough as good as any partner I've had.... fishing .....and stay'n with me all these years! We finished with 6 species which was just out of the money in 4th place. We had a short sea bass and a short trout along with a tiny puffer that all went back or we'd have been pushing some of them winners on down the list to the also fished. On the way from the lighthouse to the weigh in She said.... "you can go ahead and sign me up for next years trash classic" :-D I like that alot :smt007
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
