FLUSHING
I ALWAYS BACK THE BOAT DOWN IN A FRESH WATER POND AND RUN THE GAS OUT OF THE CARB. AFTER USING IN SALTWATER. WE LAUNCH AT THE LIGHTHOUSE MOST OF THE TIME AND THERE IS A FRESH WATER POND WITH A RAMP JUST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE POOL ON THE LEFT AS YOU HEAD BACK OUT TO 98. THEY HAVE A SMALL DOCK AT THIS LOCATION AND THERE ARE GENERALLY SEVERAL BOAT TRAILERS ON THE EDGE OF THE ROAD . BY DOING THIS YOU GET MOST OF THE SALT OFF THE TRAILER AND WASH OUT THE ENGINE AT THE SAME TIME. BY DOING THIS YOUR EQUIPMENT WILL LAST AT LEAST TEN TIMES LONGER. I HAVE A PAINTED STEEL TRAILER THAT I BUILT IN 1959, IT IS STILL IN GREAT CONDITION WITH VERY LITTLE RUST ON IT.

Futch I guess it depends on where you launch. At Aucilla the other day the water at the ramp tasted fresh. So there you are not launching in saltwater.
I suppose you are even flushing some salt out while running up the river too.
I think that launching from Icky, Spring Creek, and the fort would be the same result on your boat and motor.
Although I will still flush at home.

HEY REDBELLEY
THAT IS GOOD, BUT IT DOES NOT GET THE SALT OUT OF THE SPRINGS ON THE TRAILER, BY BACKING IN FRESH WATER IT GETS MOST OF THE SALT OUT OF THE LITTLE NOTCHES YA CAN NOT GET WITH A HOSE WASHDOWN. I HAVE HAD EXCELLENT RESULTS BY DOING THIS FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS OR SO WITH MY TRAILER AND ENGINE WITH VERY LITTLE CORROSION IF ANY.

I flush mine in the yard and run it until the thermostat opens. Then take the cowling off and rinse the condensed salt that forms on the back of the engine. Let it air dry in the sun and then spray with a good corrosion block. Looks like new after 4 years.

100% agreed. I don't run the motor on earmuffs or anything just hook up the hose for a good 10 minutes at home. Blast away at the trailer with a garden hose too. But I believe the fresh water runs made up the rivers can't be bad for getting salt out of a motor. (Nor can dunking the trailer in to pick up your boat.)Redbelly wrote:Futch I guess it depends on where you launch. At Aucilla the other day the water at the ramp tasted fresh. I guess it depends though because sometimes the water even at the Fort, Inky or Panacea Harbor Marina isn't that fresh.
