carrabelle 9-2 King tourney
Left out of Carrabelle river at 6 am Saturday fishing the small tourney for Kings (9 boats) Great day on the water but absolutely nothing was biting. We had squid, ly's, live pins, finger mullet, and spanish sardines and we never got a single bite from a grouper. We had free lines out and about 11 we hooked the winner at 27+ lbs and threw him in the cooler to ride while we continued going all over looking for the 2nd one and some grouper. 1 pm and the wind starts coming up and we moved around looking for another. Finally got so bat at 4 we decided to go in to make the weigh-in. The seas were rough and we were running north while being hit by nw winds (NOAA said southwest,ha!) Got in at 5:35 and found that of all the boats there was only 1 other fish so we had a lock or so we thought. We took the fish from the cooler and found a stiff, dried out fish that obviously had lost so weight but he weighed in at 27lbs. 3ozs. ONE oz under the other fish. ONE OZ. So we took second but learned a valuable lesson. Purchase and use an insulated fish bag. I guarantee there will be one on board the next time. Good day tho and we split the pot 60/40 so the trip and entrance fee was paid. Final tally, 2 large spanish Macks, 2 triggers, 2 grunts, one large King, and a valuable lesson
