6.0 is pretty big.....I wouldn't want to be offshore today

Statement as of 1:39 PM EDT on September 10, 2006

... Public information statement... corrected for magnitude

... Earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico this morning...

At 1056 am EDT... the United States geologic survey reported that a
6.0 magnitude earthquake (corrected from earlier 5.8 ) occurred in
the Gulf of Mexico approximately 250 miles south southwest of
Apalachicola Florida or 355 miles west southwest of Orlando
Florida. The epicenter of the quake was at latitude 26.34 north
and longitude 86.57 west. Numerous reports of a tremor from this
earthquake have been reported across central Florida... with fewer
reports over North Florida. No damage has been reported by any of
the callers.
Didn't feel anything in Grady Co.
