St. Marks Monday, 10/2
Lucked out and got to fish monday. The only place to buy live shrimp on Monday in St. Marks is the Shell Island Fish Camp. Bought the shrimp, on the water about 8:00.
First stop west flats out front of (almost in) Big Pass caught a legal trout. Lost two other big trout and caught quite a few shorts. On the slack tide decided to run to the sandbar east of the bird roost. On the way there ran into bait getting torn up by Spanish on the surface. Got a couple of the expected cutoffs but there were big trout underneath and put two more legal trout in the boat before the fish moved on.
Drifted the sandbar and had several good fish on but not landed. Had to switch to Gulp shrimp since trolling the bait bucket at 35 turned out to be unwise. The water was amazingly clear. Over the sand we could see the trout on the bottom in about 4 -5 feet of water. Hardly a ripple on the surface. Two good strikes on pinfish lost to rodholder syndrome.
On the way back in we were planning to throw a pinfish at the bird roost in hopes of cobia. When we got there a guy in a John boat was hooked up. The fish launched within a few feet of his boat and looked easily 35 lbs. His female companion was waving a trout size landing net gamely. The fish was not landed. Still fun to see. Back at the dock at 1:00 pm. Amazing, beautiful day.

thanks for the advice
I've heard something like that before, but that's the most specific instructions on it I've seen. I'll definitely try it. Thanks.
