Grouper Fishing Question

Post by redfishhunter »

Two Questions:
When are the best times to troll for shallow water grouper ?
(Example: when after a front ? water temp ? moon phases ? barometric pressure ?)

When are the worst times to troll for shallow water grouper ?
(Example: when after a front ? water temp ? moon phases ? barometric pressure ?)

Thanks for your time !

To be honest I have only trolled for grouper a few times in my life. That being said I have been grouper fishing for many years.

I have found that the best grouper bite generally occurs during a weak tide. During the stronger tides I have found that grouper hold tighter to structure. And you have to be more precise with your bait placement. So I would guess that trolling would be better for grouper when they are dispersed away from the structure and out actively feeding.

I would guess that trolling for grouper would be better on any moon phase other than a new or full moon, since the currents are stronger on the full and new moons.

I would also guess that as the water temp cools or warms in the spring and fall the trolling bite would be better and the grouper will be in shallower water.

I have found that any fishing before a front is better than fishing after a front.

I would say that the worst time for trolling for shallow water grouper would be when the grouper are out deep.
