Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a couple of Shimano reels repaired and cleaned?

Seriously, one should look into doing it yourself, it will increase your reels performance...unless of course you put it back together wrong ..The best way to learn a new reel is to get a sheet of white paper and take a part off, place it on the paper and write 1 below it with a pencil, take another off and write two below that one, etc......There's alot sites out there on reel maintenance.

I clean my reels every three to four trips, so carrying them to a shop would be costly.

But if you don't want to do it, I believe Jerry's Bait and Tackle has a cleaning service...I think Jeff Trent (Trouttrent) has a cleaning service as well.

Just looking at the parts on the PDF I got skeered. Its my Shimano Chronarch CH100BSV The thumb spring is shot. I figured it could get cleaned too, and a Stradic 2500 has a little handle problem.

I just use mine till they break, throw away and buy another course mine only $25 to 35$ also

Chronarch is a simple reel to take apart, only tricky part is the screws inside the frame after you remove the spool...Thumb spring shot ...sounds like the inside is dirty and not engaging the spool.

Paper, tools, mineral spirits, 3 in 1 oil, reel grease....EZPZ

I use alot of Qtips for cleaning and greasing

My last do it yourself cleaning experiment resulted in me removing grease or oil from where I shouldnt have. I made a poorly performing reel completely inoperable. Aprox. $25 later (cleaning only, no repairs needed), it works like a champ again, but you will need to count on not getting it back for at least a couple weeks.

I've bought parts from Heartland Tackle before - you can get Smoothee drag washers there if you want to upgrade your drag. Check out the ABEC 7 bearing upgrade if you want to increase your casting distance.

That would be Bill Colson. In fact, I stopped by and talked to Bill today. He does good work.

BTW, he has 2 slightly used Ambassadeurs he's selling for a lady who's husband died. $40 each.
