Strike Three

Post by Fisherman989 »

It finally happened...after a magnificent run...on the flats during the summer and fall....and in the river when it has gotten cold....winter isn't here yet. I went to Aucilla River today, 12Dec06, and didn't catch the first fish. I fished from above the landing to the very entrence of the sea to no avail ....no place produced anything...no trout..no redfish. Not the first bite all day. Quit about 1500 hours. I know these days come along. Today was mine. The umpire called "strike three" and I still had the bat on my shoulder.
It has been a long time since I went all day down there without a bite....in fact I don't remember ever doing that....but I did today.
There will be a better day....but I ain't going back tomorrow. :(

Good morning Fisherman989.

Perhaps this will help.... I spoke on the phone last evening with Capt Randle Leger. He went yesterday with Capt Randy Peart. Randy was looking for some Red fish locations in preparation of a couple of final guided trips this year. They fished the same water you did and had NOT the first bite. Now collectively...there were two of the areas best and most knowledgeable fishermen in the same boat and no bites. They said they met up with one boat that had fish and they had been caught very early in the day. IT IS AFTER ALL..... FISHING! :o :-D

Ouch.
That said, yours is one of the best and most useful reports I've seen in a while. It happens -why it does can be pure mystery. When it does I resolve to the karma of it & then the fine things it will add up to on another day.
Excellent report.
Also, Sir Reel, your follow-up is especially helpful. Now I'm studying all of yesterday's conditions & trying to sort out the puzzle. I may not get to go today but I'm almost fishing.

Fisherman989, I feel your pain. I went the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and for my first time ever, did not get even a bite. I heard that later that week the bite was good. Then I went this past weekend and caught 50 or so Red's (mostly pups). Saturday I may strike out or I may hit a homerun but I'll do it from my jon boat and at least I'll be in the game. Good luck on your next outing.
