Econfina 12-16

Post by Redfish Jim »

Put in about 10:30 and went straight to a secret creek. Redfish everywhere. Caught 15 of them, most in the 22"- 24" range but 4 were pups. Also got a couple of pretty nice trout, both 23" fish. It's been a long time since I caught nice trout like that.

About 1:00, I headed offshore to 20' - 25'. No grouper and black sea bass not as abundant and agressive as last few trips. I've only done this for the last 3 years but I think I notice a pattern where water temps below the high 50's means no grouper in 25' or less. Water temp was 55 yesterday and 52 last weekend. Also, first two trips this winter since the water got below 60 and first two trips since fall where I didn't catch at least one grouper. As you can see, a pretty simplistic way to draw a conclusion so I would love to stand corrected on this if any of you old salts know better.

Got a nice mess of crab claws from my traps and headed in. Will have a fine meal tonight :lick:

15 redfish, two 23" trout, and a mess of crabs. That sounds like a pretty successful day :-D :-D
