Arrived at the ramp close to 0800 to see a very skinny river. The only place to launch was the "hole" on the south side of the ramp. Finally got the rig into the river and started southward. At the first rockpile we caught l short red and 2 short trout. Not bad for starting out. Went on down to the "streighaway
and caught a keeper trout of 17 in.on a jig.
This was to be our last keeper till about 1130 when we caught another 17 in trout near to the middle of the streightaway. Now we got 2 keepers in the boat. There was 3 of us in the boat and we had been from the landing to below the island....throwing jigs...sometimes tipped with shrimp....mirror lures.
All this time we had caught 4-5 little bitty trout...not 10 in long.
Finally got enough water to go out on the flats....so we headed East toward Econfina about 1-2 miles.Imagine being on the flats in December. Surprisingly there was 3 or 4 boats way out on the flats....1 nearly 2 miles out. Wonder if they were doing anything...because we sure was not. Got 1 bite from a 10in flounder.
Decided to go to the west flats....since we did nothing on the east side.
Should have gone home because we didn't get a bite on the westward swing.
Came on back to the river and quit about 1400 hrs. Total for the day...between 3 quite experienced fishermen....2 trout.
It's hard to say...but I belive....it may be over for this season. This is the second time in 2 weeks I've been there...and struck out. This unseasonable weather we are having...up to 80 degrees today...is hard to overcome.
Mullet were in the river today though. Saw 3-4 boats fishing for them....
and the netters were out in force. :(
There were 17 trucks at the landing when we retrieved about 1400 hrs. Never did see over 5-6 boats in the river. Wonder where they were....up a creek?
