Cedar Key offshore. 1/14/07. Family grouper trip (14 pics)

Post by Big Bend Brian »

The goal for this trip was twofold: To get my 5 year old daughter Kaitlyn her very first grouper followed by putting my wife on her first grouper in a year. Sunday morning the conditions were right and we left late to allow for the predicted winds to drop in the afternoon. We left the dock at 1100 hours and were soon at the first spot just shy of 40 feet.

Already prepared for what was to come, Kait’s was the first to drop and be ready to go but the wifer got the first hit.

Kaits ready to go

Turning around I see Pat with a good fish but she’s having problems controlling it. Listening to her and watching the rod tip unmercifully going lower and lower it was obvious what was gonna happen. Obviously, this grouper was in charge and it made it to the rocks below.

What an absolutely wonderful trip  I have a pic of my daughter catching a fish, sitting on my desk...when she was about 5/6 years old. I look at it everyday....she's now 13 (time flies) and she still enjoys fishing, boating, etc...You just can't beat a family day on the boat. Congrats on the great catch as well.... :lick:
