[What a mess]

At the public ramp at Keaton there is a sign, it says drop off at the end of the ramp.

Meaning your trailer is going over a cliff getting hung and you are screwed.

Can you say I can't believe I got up at 4:30 and spent $$$$$$$$$ for this.

A lovely crowd gathered offering sympathy and advice even a little help.

We got in the boat used the anchor as a fish hook and caught the trailer.

Two of us now in need of care for our backs, we could lift it just enough to have a passer by gas on it and get us up the drop off.

We were told many have ripped of the axle on the boat trailer there.

The good people of Tailor County did have time enough to make and post a sign. I wish the would fix the ramp.

Next time hook the anchor on the trailer, pull the line taught and tie off on the boat..put the boat in reverse to pull the trailer up and the truck driver ease forward until it gets back on the ramp...EZPZ

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME A COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK AT THE AUCILLA BOAT RAMP, I CAUGHT A HOLE JUST RIGHT AND IT RIPPED THE WHOLE WHEEL ASSEMBLY OFF THE TRAILER. BORROWED A HAULING TRAILER OR HOG TRAILER FROM J R AND WITH THE HELP OF SOME NICE FOLKS FROM ALBANY LOADED MY TRAILER ON THAT TRAILER, BACKED THEM BOTH DOWN THE RAMP LOADED THE BOAT AND WENT HOME. DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THAT BIG A DEAL BUT YOU HAD TO SEE J Rs TRAILER.

COST OF GOING FISHING AND REPAIRING WHEEL $60

THE LOOK ON MY BROTHER FACE SEEING HIS PRACTICALLY NEW BOAT UP ENDED IN THE BACK OF A HOG TRAILER PRICELESS

They used the buoyance of the boat to lift the trailer back up

Thanks for the warning. Keaton is one of the best public ramps I know of. I didn't realize it dropped off like that though.

If you know of a drop off and there is a dock, tie the rope to the back of the trailer before launching, wrap the rope around the ties on the dock, and use that as a pulley. you can tie the rope off to the boat and back away, while slowly pulling forward in the truck. this gives a bit more leverage than just using the boat or your back (but if you feel manly enough pull on the rope yourself). Note: personal experience occuring way back when while using a honda accord to pull a 15ft V bottom, out of Bull Shoals Lake in Missouri........

Thank you for the "wake up call"...I'm sorry about your trailer grief. We all need to heed this warning - use a spotter when backing a trailer and never trust a landing, especially those we have used in the past!

At Aucilla it is best to launch on the concrete,then push your boat in.
